The steady-state combustion was achieved in about 400 s after ignition and remained until 900 s, where PP was burning as a solid with formation and burning away of very small liquid bubbles at the surface. Between about 1000 and 1100 s after ignition, the PP slab melted rapidly, forming a deep molten liquid pool on top of the solid polymer. Beyond 1150 s after ignition, the deep molten liquid pool of PP was burning as a boiling liquid pool re with heat release rate increasing exponentially. At about 1300 s the heat release rate decreased rapidly as all the sample had been consumed. The heat release rate for the steady-state combustion of solid polymer is about one third the rate for the combustion of boiling liquid pool over the solid polymer surface. In a large-scale study of res of selected parts from a minivan (1996 Dodge Caravan [30]), it was found that a signi cant aspect of the burning behavior of the
